Recording fees are paid separately to the county. Typical San Joaquin County rates: $30 for owner-occupied transfers, $100 for non-owner-occupied transfers, $100 Deed of Trust, $200 Reconveyance. Other counties charge their own rates.

California attorneys typically charge significantly more for the same documents. A few common comparisons:
The document quality is identical — both an LDA-prepared trust and an attorney-prepared trust are equally valid under California law. The price difference reflects what an attorney's hourly rate has to cover (advisory liability, bar dues, malpractice insurance, firm overhead) that an LDA doesn't carry. Ask. If it's a Legal Document Assistant matter, I can quote you a flat fee before any work starts. If it's something I don't handle (or that genuinely needs an attorney), I'll tell you that — and refer you to an attorney I trust.
